Evening Grosbeaks at High Park

As I type this I’ve got one eye on the Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers NFL game.  Go Seahawks!

Yesterday’s outing was, in a word, marvelous! I was thrilled to have the company of my daughter as we headed for breakfast at Le Gourmand (Spadina and Queen) in Toronto.  While waiting for our meal I took the opportunity to snap a couple pictures of their other offerings.

Shortly thereafter our French toast arrived!  Good golly Miss Molly, the French toast was beyond scrumptious!

So good I almost cried

The evening grosbeak was our target species. We read the birds could be observed at the High Park Sanctuary in Toronto.  When we arrived two birders were present.  They welcomed us, showed us the best viewing area and advised the birds were seen at the feeders at 8:00 a.m.  Ultimately, five of us were present when the evening grosbeaks returned.  The excitement was palpable.

The grosbeaks returned to the feeders four times.  After about two hours the cold started to permeate our boots.  We left the area to explore a bit more of the trail.  We were chatting about our morning when a flash of yellow to the left caught my attention.  There they were, quietly feasting on leaves. We weren’t even looking for them!

We had a great day at the Sanctuary and will provide you with additional photographs next time.

Blast, the Seahawks keep turning over the ball.  Green Bay is up 19-7.  Yes!!!! The Seattle Seahawks are going to the Superbowl!
